MGO is the unique, organic compound Methylglyoxal which has been identified as the active ingredient primarily responsible for the antibacterial activity in mānuka which makes mānuka honey so unique. The higher the certified level of MGO in the mānuka honey, the greater the level of antibacterial activity and associated health benefits in the honey. 

MGO and Unique Mānuka Factor (UMF) are two different grading systems for mānuka honey.

Monofloral mānuka is the highest grade quality of mānuka honey.

The test for Monfloral mānuka honey requires the honey to meet all five attributes of the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) Science Definition of mānuka honey (comprising four chemical attributes and one DNA test from mānuka pollen). 

Multifloral mānuka is a lesser grade quality of mānuka honey which meets four of the five attributes of the MPI Science Definition of monofloral mānuka honey.

Yes. However there is a health warning on BeeOra™ labels that our honey is not suitable for infants under the age of 12 months.

Our bees are free to forage in their natural environment and visit a range of flowers and nectar sources in their daily activities. 

By carefully tending our hives and observing seasonal flowering patterns, we harvest our hives at the end of the mānuka flowering period (which varies from season to season). This avoids our honey being contaminated by the bees foraging on other flowering tree species and contributes to the quality of BeeOra™ mānuka honey offerings.
